Profile of an IWA Graduate

Academics

As a Woman of the Word, it is vital to be positive, show integrity, and remain curious despite the challenges she may face. Through my service I experienced many challenges, such as witnessing a few heartbreaking moments that I have never been exposed to before; however, I did not allow myself to lose sight of my purpose at Texas Children's Hospital. Incarnate Word Academy has instilled in me the skills of critical thinking, collaboration, and empathy to explore new ways my coworkers and I could bring some hope and comfort to these children and their families. Service prompts me to remain open-minded and actively search for solutions for the issues within my community. Ultimately, service educates us  on how to be  selfless, eager, and kind servant leaders to create extraordinary solutions that make a difference in the world.

Spirituality

A Woman of the Word fosters the Catholic faith and teaching in her service and lives her life according to God's values. IWA has taught me the value in prayer and how being in a relationship with Christ encourages me to embrace His holiness and strive for truth, beauty, and goodness. Service allows  me to remain grounded in the faith and to selflessly give to others just as Christ has done and continues to do for us. Service helps me to follow in the footsteps of Christ and live out a holy life. Additionally, service prompts me to share the faith to those who I am serving and further unify all of God's people as a Body of Christ.

Values

A Woman of the Word understands the importance of what it means to be a servant leader and integrates her instilled values within her service to make an impact inside and outside the IWA community. Entering into the Texas Children's Volunteer Program, I knew that this experience was going to be far from simple and I would witness some very difficult moments; nevertheless, I leaned into those uncomfortable moments and continued to perform kind acts and provide encouraging words for the children, but I was not always successful. Even in those failed occurrences, I reflected on how I could demonstrate my compassion in a different way and persevered. These instances taught me that service is a unified effort and how all of our strengths and perspectives put together can foster a beautiful outcome that can make a huge difference in our community.
